The book of the month is...

Unbroken (Adapted for Young Adults) by Laura Hillenbrand
Unbroken reveals the true and captivating survival story of Louie zamperini, an olympian runner, World war 2 veteran, and american hero. Hildenbrand masterfully retells zamperini's fascinating story, while carefully evaluating many complicated themes, such as brutality, companionship, war, and forgiveness. The book is full of hidden surprises and meaningful life lessons, making it a great read for all ages 12 and up (contains violence).

Louis zamperini, an excellent sprinter, had just finished his first olympic games and was training for his second, when he was invited to join the US air force. Little did he know, he would later participate in the largest, most devastating war in human history. In this epic story of survival, zamperini must persevere through trials, torture, and tragedy, with little to no resources. A wonderful promise awaits him on the other side.

I just finished this book and it was a wonderful story of persistence, hope, and determination. This nonfiction literature is a tale of action packed survival and thrill, however it gives a look into the lives and history of World War II soldiers. Although there were many violent and grim parts, the ending makes up for it and shows just what can come out of something horrific. A great example of transformations from hate to forgiveness, lost to found, and blind to seeing. I recommend it to all readers and I can't wait for the book club!
